Antonio Simón is a keyboardist whose performances combine historical research with expressive freedom and a deep sense of musical rhetoric. Paraphrasing Verdi, he believes that returning to the past can be the most powerful way to move forward — a conviction that underpins his approach to Romantic-era instruments and aesthetics. His recent recording of Liszt’s Sonata in B minor on period instruments is the first of its kind: a breakthrough project that reimagines one of the towering masterpieces of the piano repertoire.
Trained in Madrid, Zagreb, and Amsterdam, Antonio is a versatile musician who performs on piano, fortepiano, harpsichord, and clavichord. He regularly appears at prestigious venues and festivals such as Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, Festival Otoño Barroco in Seville, Glazbene večeri u Sv. Donatu in Zadar, and the Romantic Fortepiano Festival in Verbania.
His work also reached a wider audience through the PBS documentary series Now Hear This, where he played a central role in the Scarlatti episode — a feature recommended by The New York Times. Antonio Simón is a tenured professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga and an award-winning musicologist.
